Using Info that is xAPI to See Assessment results — Use Case

Included in this development and introduction of xAPI to a large organisation, it can always be a struggle. I’d like to share with you how I utilized xAPI using Articulate Storyline 360, published as SCORM and being sent through a Learning Management System (LMS). The Learning Record Store (LRS) is Learning Locker.

To summarise, a department needed to have the ability to catch the answers selected in assessments being delivered on the web. The assessments had been upgraded to Storyline from Lectora. Lectora had the capacity to send the results of an assessment through email, which was perfect. With all the organisation going to Articulate, this was not part of Storyline.

I was involved in a pilot program to introduce xAPI (and other learning technologies) and could observe how xAPI may be utilized to capture this information.

I used the Javascript library that is clarified in this article My LMS Supports SCORM do I use xAPI. This was the easy part. I added a Trigger for each time a query was answered. This also inhabited the results component of this statement.

With the information I had a way to display the information in a meaningful manner. Together with the builtin reports from Learning Locker were.

With a lot and some study of playing, I eventually used some Javascript to pull on data and display the results. Adding some CSS to show what the learner got right and wrong, together with filtering of the results ended up. The item sits in the internal SharePoint site, which affirms the Single Sign On authentication version. Instructors and tutors can review the results (in almost real time by refreshing) and print the results if necessary.

The first portion of page was to get into the Tasks. This was by far the part like I couldn’t find xAPI Wrapper can pull each course uniquely up. As I had control over what was going into the SCROM packages as far as xAPI Statements, I settled for using the Launched verb. This is only used in the course. I could use the activityID to pull on the students, After I had this. From there, it was a simple process to pull on all of the information and render the output.

Below is a short movie of the last item whilst I am unable to share the code. It is demonstrated to be a tool and a great selling point to acquire setup with in a large business.
