Stever sat with the Ana Casic of TalentLMS to explain how activity and productivity management play a significant part in achieving aims, and how technology tools may not be as useful as we’d imagined.
Productivity in the office: can it be trained?
Ana: Can productivity be educated, and how can you summarize your hints for HR departments and managers on the best way to train their employees?
Stever: Well, first of all, “can productivity be trained?” It is a fascinating question because part of what you have to ask is, what’s productivity in the first place?
Productivity is getting the result you would like to use a minimum quantity of money, or a minimum of work, or at the least have to doing this thing, whatever the inputs would be. So, can you train for this? There are some things that you can teach. There are some things that you can’t. I will begin with the things that you can’t so we could get them.
Multiple constraints restrict how much work you can perform If it comes to being productive as a single employee, especially in a multi-person business. A few of those items are under your control; some aren’t. So there is no quantity of preparation you can perform as a person to be productive in these regions.
Productivity is the job flows between people, not how the workflows inside their job and one person. And in my opinion, with organization productivity, that’s the task of managers. That’s what managers should be spending their time doing understanding the linkages and streamlining them.
Treating productivity like a team sport
Stever: you could always offer to help them If people are hampering your productivity being postponed. And no, you are not going to get paid extra for this, and no, it is not going to be reflected in your work name, but what it’ll do is get stuff so that you could get your job done that much 48 moving. And I would keep tabs on this and bring this up at your review.
But mostly, organizational growth is catchy, and the only way to allow it to go quicker and better is at the meta-level where you’re a supervisor. You are increasing connections between people, or, by realizing that you are stalled waiting for someone else and offering to help that someone else to do things. And if they say no, you don’t have any choice. You may be as productive as they are.

Practical methods for improving productivity
Ana: Can you give us a few thoughts on training individual productivity?
One of those that I discuss is using a pen and paper, at least for me, for to-do lists. It is very, very convenient and easy to keep records. And that proves to be a poor thing. You don’t always scroll down, and because when it is too easy and convenient, then you don’t consider the list enough and have to look at all of the to-dos that are beneath the fold.
But if you make a list with a pencil and paper, you have to scan the list psychically a range of times, and you learn what the menu looks like.
When you proceed by hand, this is a moment. Because in the minute that you are doing this, you have to decide if each incomplete item is significant enough to recopy on your new list, if you are creating a new record or to replicate into an existing index, in case you maintain a single file like that I do.
And here’s the thing: if the answer is no if you find yourself looking at an item and going, “ugh, I just don’t need to replicate that, it is so much work,” well guess what? It is probably a lot of work if it’s a lot of work to replicate to the end of the list. Is it on your list in the first place?
